Timely Medical Care Saves Patient from Amputation
On the evening of 28th Nov, a patient with crushing injury in his right hand was brought to CARE Hospitals, Hi-tech City. Mr Parmek Mandal (28), who works with a manufacturing company in Katedan Industrial Area, met with an unfortunate accident when his hand got stuck in a machine accidentally.
He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where after initial first aid and examination he was immediately sent to CARE Hospitals, Hi-tech City. First hand examination here showed that the patient suffered traumatic avulsion of right forearm with near total amputation with neurovascular compromise at mid forearm level. The forearm muscles were exposed with contamination and wrist movement was absent and so was the peripheral pulses. At this critical point, the team of doctors at CARE decided to go ahead with emergency surgery, which proved to be life saving.
And so, the same night, reconstruction surgery of the right forearm (debridement + replantation of forearm) was performed by the surgery team led by Dr M V Naveen Reddy (Consultant, Plastic Surgeon) and Dr Madhav Yendru (Consultant, Orthopedics).
Now the hand and forearm are viable and the patient is stable. He has expressed great relief that his hand was saved and the pain has reduced exponentially. Mr Parmek and his wife are thankful to his company’s support and the doctors at CARE who took good care of him.
