Lactose Intolerant? Here Are 3 Alternatives To Milk

The main symptoms of lactose intolerance include:

  • Gas
  • Bloating/belching
  • Indigestion
  • Diarrhoea
  • Nausea
  • Abdominal pain

The diagnosis of lactose intolerance calls for a lab test or medical consultation. Unfortunately, there is no cure for this. You may need to abstain from milk and milk products for the rest of your life. But, there are alternatives that can help you cope with this.

  • Soy milk – Easily available in the market, soy milk is a wonderful alternative to milk. Not only does it have the same health benefits as cow’s milk, it is also tasty and useful for a variety of milk products.
  • Almond milk – A little expensive because of the richness of almonds, but it’s worth every penny you spend on it.
  • Coconut milk – Not everybody loves coconuts. They have a distinct taste and flavour. But if you love coconuts, this is the ideal choice for you. It can be consumed directly or added to your soups, curries, daily cereal, etc.

However, if you do not want to try any of these milk alternatives, here are a few calcium options that can substitute for milk.

  • Spinach
  • Fish
  • Almonds
  • Figs
  • Broccoli
  • Beans
  • Orange
