Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) or transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is a minimally invasive procedure to replace the aortic valve of patients suffering from aortic valve stenosis. It is an ideal choice for those at a high risk of complication from valve replacement and those who cannot undergo open-heart surgery. The procedure can be performed in three ways- transfemoral approach, transapical approach and the transaortic approach. It takes about 45-60 minutes and is performed under local anesthesia.
