Aneurysm Repair - Aneurysm Clipping An aneurysm is a balloon-like bulge of an artery wall. Aneurysm Clipping is a surgery performed to isolate an aneurysm from the normal circulation Procedure of Aneurysm Clipping The head is placed in a 3-pin skull fixation device An incision is made depending on the affected area of the brain The skin and muscles are lifted off the bone and folded back A medical drill is used to make burr holes in the skull The burr holes allow the entrance of a special saw called a craniotome The cut bone flap is lifted and removed The dura is opened to expose the brain A small clip is placed across the base of the aneurysm to block the normal blood flow from entering Clips are made of titanium and remain on the artery permanently The Dura is closed with sutures The Bone flap is put back in its original position with titanium plates and screws The muscles and skin are sutured back together A soft adhesive dressing is placed over the incision Post Treatment Care after Aneurysm Clipping Avoid lifting anything heavier Avoid strenuous activities Don't drink alcohol Don't smoke Keep the incision dry Take medicines as prescribed Sleep with your head elevated
