19 April 2023
Hyderabad, 19th April, 2023: CARE Hospitals, Hi-Tec City, Hyderabad has today announced the successful completion of its first robotic knee replacement surgery using the recently procured VELYS, a highly advanced robotic assisted system for knee replacement surgery by DePuy Synthes, the Orthopaedics Company of Johnson & Johnson. With this, CARE Hospitals, Hi-Tec City, becomes the first hospital in CARE Hospitals network to introduce this innovative technology for Knee replacement. Apart from the Hi-Tec City unit, this equipment is also available at Bhubaneswar and Indore facilities of CARE Hospitals.
The advanced robotic assisted system is designed to bring the benefits of minimally invasive surgery in knee replacement offering benefits such as, fewer complications, smaller scars, shorter hospital stays, and a faster return to normal activities.
"We are delighted to introduce the highly advanced Robotic-Assisted Solution for knee replacement surgery at CARE Hospitals, Hi-Tec City. The innovative robotic-assisted solution will complement the surgeon's current workflow and help plan, execute, and perform the surgery precisely with excellent patient outcomes. We look forward to using this innovative robotic system to expand access to the existing benefits of minimally invasive knee replacement surgeries." Commented Sunit Aggarwal, HCOO, CARE Hospitals, Hi-Tec City.
The VELYS Robotic-Assisted Solution is an accurate, consistent, and streamlined system that integrates into any operating room. It provides valuable insights, versatile execution, and verified performance to deliver efficiency and optimize patient outcomes. It can help increase the accuracy of implant alignment and surgical reproducibility while shortening patient recovery and reducing post-operative complications. This will make even advanced workflows simple for the clinical team. Together with the ATTUNE®️ Knee System, using the Robotic-Assisted Solution during Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA) can lead to clinical and economic benefits compared to manual TKA. Redefining robotics in TKA, it delivers a first-of-its-kind table-mounted, imageless solution designed with simplicity.
Dr. Ratnakar Rao, HoD - Orthopedics at CARE Hospitals, Hi-Tec City said “Robotic Knee Replacement is advantageous over traditional knee replacement. It’s a new arm to the surgeon and helps in giving person-specific data to the surgeon like bone shape, size, and ligament strength accurately. Robotic guidance ensures precision in the cuts thus helping proper positioning of the implant. This ensures that the patients have a more natural feeling joint and quick recovery. Be it increased awareness about joint replacement or our changing lifestyles, patients are requiring Total Knee Replacement early in their life. This was not the case a decade ago. So, any joint replacement surgery should be complication-free for longer periods and help patients to carry out their daily activities, hobbies, and exercises”.
