UroLift An Advanced Non-Surgical Procedure to Treat Enlarged Prostate

Hyderabad, 1st March 2023: Men suffering from an enlarged prostate can now benefit from a new, minimally invasive treatment offered by CARE Hospitals Banjara Hills. The hospital is the first medical centre in Telangana & Andhra Pradesh to provide UroLift, a non-surgical solution for treatment of Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), commonly known as Prostate enlargement.

The UroLift procedure is appropriate for men with a size of less than 80 grams desiring to preserve ejaculation and erectile functions. Unlike traditional surgery, UroLift is a day-care procedure that can be performed under local anaesthesia. It does not require a hospital stay and has little operative pain, making it a more attractive and affordable treatment option.

Medical Superintendent CARE Hospitals Banjara hills Dr. Ajit Singh said on this occasion that The UroLift System is a simple, straightforward procedure that utilises tiny implants to lift and hold the enlarged prostate tissue which causes urethral block. It involves, no cutting, heating or tissue removal or destruction of tissue and hence is the most non-invasive procedure

During the non-surgical endoscopic procedure, a fine scope is passed into the urinary passage, and obstructing prostatic tissue is fixed to its wall, creating an open passage to pass urine freely. The procedure takes around 10-15 minutes, and the patient can go home on the same day without any urine pipe (catheter). The procedure’s provides quick relief from the symptoms, as early as in the first week after the treatment and allows the patient to recover at home and return to normalcy quickly. It is especially advantageous in men who wish to retain their sexual function and not take medicines lifelong.

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) affect at least half of men over 60 years of age, causing symptoms such as a frequent urge to urinate, especially at night, leakage or dribbling of urine, a weak urine stream, and trouble beginning urination. If left untreated, BPH can cause other problems, such as kidney, bladder, and urinary tract infections. CARE Hospitals, Banjara Hills urologists screen patients as potential candidates for the non-surgical endoscopic procedure. Suitable candidates are typically 50 to 85 years of age, with urinary tract symptoms, have been on medications for the last six months, and have undergone assessment for prostate cancer risk.

“It is great that patients now have a non-surgical endoscopic procedure alternative to surgery to help with this common health problem. We have seen excellent results with the patients we have treated so far. For men suffering from an enlarged prostate, it is important to understand the full range of available treatment options and pursue the treatment best suited for them.” said Dr. P. Vamsi Krishna, Head of the Department of Urology at CARE Hospitals Banjara Hills.

With the recent FDA approval of the UroLift procedure and it being considered as a gold standard treatment option, CARE Hospitals Banjara Hills is happy to offer this as an alternative to surgery for patients who are suitable candidates.
