Osteotomy means cutting the bone. Knee Osteotomy is advised in case of damage to one area of the knee due to arthritis. To balance the weight of the body – shifting it from the damaged area to the unaffected side is done by reshaping the femur (thigh bone) or the tibia (shinbone).
This surgery is done in combination with other surgeries such as cartilage surgery in case the patient has knocked knees or the said leg which may be bent. A wedge of the bone is added or removed to shift your body weight from the damaged area. The surgery improves knee function and alignment.
