    Dr.Gulla Surya Prakash, M.D, D.M., FSCAI, FACC (USA), FESC(EUR), is an alumni of AIIMS. Presently working as Senior Consultant Cardiologist at Musheerabad brach of CARE Hospitals, Hyderabad.

    He was born in Ravipalli, a small village in Vizianagaram district and comes from rural lower middle class background where there are no educational facilities. Because of that he had to walk to the nearby mandal headquarters for his primary schooling. He graduated M.B.B.S. degree from the Andhra Medical College, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh during 1984 and won gold medals in several subjects. Then, he got seat in MD General Medicine in the prestigious “All India Institute of Medical Sciences(AIIMS), New Delhi” and M.D. degree was awarded in 1988 and moved to super specialization in D.M in 1992 from the esteemed Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad and the DM (Cardiology) degree was awarded in 1995. He has received world famous prestigious fellowships form the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI), Washington, DC, U.S.A in 2012 and also The American College of Cardiology (FACC) awarded him Fellowships in 2014 for his dedicated work and contributions to the field of cardiology which gave him international recognition. He also received Fellowship of European Society of Cardiology (FESC) in February 2014 for his outstanding contribution to the field of cardiology. He has published over 100 publications in various national and international journals and conference proceedings, and also attended numerous conferences, seminars and workshops worldwide as a delegate, keynote speaker, chairperson and resource person for the past 20 years.

    Right from his student days, he has been working for poor and needy people in and around his village areas. He realized the need for health care and started working to alleviate the basic medical facilities and extended his helping hand to those suffering in the rural areas. During those days itself he started conducting free medical camps and offered other charity works in his village and surrounding areas as medical student whatever he was able to do. With the same spirit, self-motivation and full dedication, he has been working continuously for the welfare of poor and suffering people in various parts of Andhra Pradesh for the past 36 years.

    Swamiji’s vision of mother and childcare hospital was totally conceptualized, designed and took major responsibility in execution. He was responsible right from planning to, identifying right kind of equipment and procuring, and setting-up of equipment and furniture in all the labs and making it ready for the President of India’s inauguration as Executive Vice Chairman, VIMS. Since then he has been looking after the entire hospital, giving advice to junior staff and also responsible for its maintenance on the whole. The majority of the patients are coming from 100 kilometers radius to Viswanagar those who are not getting government help now approaching the VIMS hospital in getting their free treatment including medicines for their life time. Every month around 1500 patients are getting benefit ted from this hospital by way of free consultation, investigation and free medicines. With his extraordinary dedication, he had been regularly conducting free medical camps on third Sunday of every month for the last 21 years at VIMS, Viswanagar, Guntur. The small medical camp started in March 1998 later transformed into VIMS (Viswayogi Institute of Medical Sciences) - Mother and Child Care Hospital, a full-fledged super-specialty hospital by the vision of Sri Viswayogi Viswamjee Maharaj, having outpatient services for all divisions of medicine. Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam was accepted to act as Honorary Chairman of the VIMS Hospital. Since then continuously, monthly every third weekend a free medical camp is being organized at VIMS, Viswanagar, Guntur.

    As inspired by the DR APJ Abdul Kalam, he has started another project of service to Janma Bhoomi. Dr Prakash started Janma Bhoomi project in February 2017 with all facilities including consultation in all specializations, all diagnostic services including CT/MRI scans. Under this project every month, first weekend he is available at Bobbli and Visakhapatnam, about 200 patients are treated within a radius of 120 kilometers are getting quality treatment without going to Visakhapatnam. He has a plan for setting-up of a hospital in that region and providing quality healthcare services particularly to downtrodden people in the society.

    He was the recipient of the Prestigious Ugadi Puraskar award from the Madras Telugu Academy Tamil Nadu, in the year 1999 for his meritorious services in health care. In the year 2004, he has received Vikasa Ratna Shiromani award by the Society for Friendship and National Unity, New Delhi “for his selfless services to Mother India”. Received Vaidya Siromani Award in 2006 from Megacity Navakala Vedika, Hyderabad. Vishwamanava Samaikyata Samat, Vishwamandiram, Guntur has given him Distinguished Service Award in 2008 for his outstanding and dedicated community services and putting exceptional efforts in promoting human values and culture. Awards and recognition of the society are secondary to him, he is in the hearts of millions of patients to whom he has extended his services including paying their medical expenses from his pocket. Out of all, the most notable felicitation was by Telugu Association of North America (TANA) at Texas, USA in the year 2010 by giving him ‘Vaidya Ratna’ Award for his decade long distinguished services as an Eminent Senior Cardiologist and also providing philanthropic services to poor and deserving people of Andhra Pradesh. Dr Prakash received another Vaidya Ratna Award from Akkineni Foundation of America during 2nd Annual Award Gala of Akkineni International on 20th December 2015 for his exceptional services to society. He was given Ugadi Puraskar Award by the Vamsi International Cultural Seva Sangam in the year 2016 for his meritorious services in the field of healthcare. Hon’ble Union Minister for Civil Aviation Shri Pusapati Ashok Gajapati Raju and Vizianagaram government authorities felicitated Dr. Prakash on the eve of Vizianagara Utsav 2016 celebrations for his highest accomplishments in the field medical sciences from the district. Kinnera Arts Theatre – Kinnera Cultural Educational Trust felicitated him with Ugadi Puraskar Award given by Sri Kunijeti Rosaiah, Former Governor of Tamil Nadu in the year 2019 in recognition to his services to the society.

    He is always smiling and make the patients too smile and silently doing all the best possible services to all people irrespective of their caste, creed, religion and region which is rare in today’s society. The gratitude look on the faces of poor patients inspired more and extended his horizon of services to poor.

    Dr. Gulla Surya Prakash is a man of a MISSION in LIFE with service as motto. He is people’s doctor and inspiring and mentoring so many young doctors. According to his own words, he was inspired by Bhagawan Sri Satya Baba, Bhagawan Sri Viswayogi Viswamjee Maharaj and many more sages.
