5 Remedies for Bad Breath
The root cause of bad breath is not as cryptic as many may think. From gum diseases to coated tongue and poor oral hygiene, there are several reasons why people develop bad breath. Listed below are 5 home remedies that can help you fight the embarrassing bad breath:
- Drinking enough water
Drinking enough water on a regular basis can take care of bad breath. The thing with water is that it helps clean your mouth, get rid of harmful bacteria and thus reduces odour significantly. For starters, you can begin with 1.5 to 2 litres a day. With time, try to push it up to approximately 3 litres.
- Green Tea
Another popular home remedy for bad breath is green tea. Drinking three cups a day can help you get rid of bad breath within a few days. Green tea has antioxidants that destroy bacteria and improve your breath. It also has other properties that boost immunity and lower the possibility of developing a disease.
- Chewable Herbs
Chewing herbs first thing in the morning before brushing is actually quite good for treating bad breath. Basil, mint, cilantro or parsley are all actually quite helpful. The chlorophyll in these green plants reduce odour and make you feel fresh all day.
- Brushing Three Times A Day
If your breath is bad, then you can brush twice a day. But if it’s worse, then try brushing thrice a day. Brushing is obviously good for your teeth and gums as it cleans the mouth and removes plaque and the odour causing bacteria. It improves overall tooth health too.
- Salt Water Gargling
Gargling with salt water is quite useful as it removes bacteria from your tonsil and throat which often cause bad breath. Opt for sea salt instead of table salt for gargling, as it has been found to be more effective.
