Yoga & Your Heart
Yoga is known for its power to improve your flexibility, mindfulness, and your overall health.
While we’d all like to be a little stronger or slimmer or more centered, here are three little-known ways in which yoga can help take care of your heart.
- The slow pace and deep breathing techniques employed in yoga can improve lung capacity, lower blood pressure, and enhance blood circulation.
- If you’ve already faced a cardiac event (such as cardiac arrest or a heart attack), you may be dealing with the stress or shock of having been dealt such a blow. Yoga is a great way to help you overcome that stress and regain emotional balance.
- A study published in 2010 found that practicing yoga helped patients with heart failure achieve a better quality of life and improved their cardiovascular endurance. The participants in the study saw a 22% increase in lung capacity and decreased heart inflammation as well.
